We are dealing with winter colds around here and so it was time to make some Instant Hot Wassail. Because of the Vitamin C from Tang (good enough for astronauts, good enough for me) and lemonade mix, and the comfort of cinnamon and cloves, we like to drink this wassail when we are feeling under the weather. It’s a delicious way to get some goodness into your body. Now you might think I’m stretching it with instant, powdered ingredients. Maybe so, but it sure makes you feel better, and it is so good for the soul.
I can’t even tell you how long ago I got this recipe–maybe when I was in high school. Dad had several recipes that he liked to make during the holidays, and this was one of them. The other was a hot spiced punch, if I remember correctly, involving spices in cheesecloth. Maybe I will share that on another day.
I usually make this wassail during Christmas because it is also a great quick gift. Years upon years ago, when I had babies and was feeding them formula, I would save the cans to use as containers to give the wassail to friends and family. If you have some strips of leftover Christmas wrap lying around, that makes the perfect thing to cover any container that has a plastic lid. If you want to get fancy, by all means purchase some cute containers. Since I had a plethora of formula cans, that was just the right thing for me to use. Now I use the empty pantry cans from my Thrive foods.
So, make a cute card with the recipe on it, maybe include a cute little scoop and there you go!
As far as the health benefits mentioned before, my husband just asked me how come I sounded so cleared up and I told him I had just made a batch of Instant Hot Wassail and drank what I had used for the photo. I think I will have some tomorrow for breakfast with these bran muffins.
Just sayin’.
