Why not make your own Everything But The Bagel Seasoning with this easy copycat recipe?
You’ve probably heard of it, right? Pretty sure Trader Joe’s made it a thing. Or was it someone else? At any rate, I first tasted it after buying some from Trader Joe’s. (And apparently, it’s now a potato chip flavor?) I enjoyed it on scrambled eggs, cheese, and sliced avocado. Delish!
I ran out recently, but found a Walmart version. Maybe mine was old or something; but it wasn’t nearly as good. So I decided to try making my own as I do not have a Trader Joe’s close by.
A Word About Ingredients
It did take some Amazon ordering to get the right stuff. And that’s fine with me. I’m at the point in life where I’m not willing to traipse from store to store looking for black sesame seeds when Amazon can do it for me. You may call it lazy; I call if efficient!
Anyhoo, ordering through Amazon also gave me a chance to order larger containers of the ingredients, which usually means a lower price per ounce. Typically, those small glass or plastic bottles of herbs and spices will be more expensive per ounce than compared with the Sam’s or Costco sized options. (I also don’t have a Costco near me…can someone please fix this?)
The only ingredient that was tricky was the sea salt flakes. The flakes in the box I ended up ordering were quite large! So this batch of Copycat Everything But The Bagel Seasoning will not fit into a shaker bottle; the salt will block the holes. But I’m okay with it in a Mason jar for now. Once this box of flake salt runs out I’ll try another brand and get a smaller flake size.
What to Sprinkle It On
Like I said, I enjoy it on eggs, cheese, and avocado. And, obviously, you can sprinkle it over cream cheese on a bagel!
A few more ideas are to sprinkle it over: baked chicken, hash browns, grilled fish, avocado toast, cauliflower rice, pizza crust, coleslaw, roasted veggies, mac and cheese, hummus, tomato soup, guacamole, corn on the cob, garlic bread. Basically whatever the heck you want to put it on.
But my favorite way, currently, to enjoy Copycat Everything But The Bagel Seasoning is this: halved mini sweet peppers, filled with softened cream cheese…then sprinkled with said seasoning. YUMMMMMM!!!
