Butter Dips are a quick and easy “breadstick” to pair with your favorite meal.

Do I love yeast bread type breadsticks?  Do I love sourdough bread?  Do I love fancy artisan loaf?  Of course I do!  But when it’s dinnertime, sometimes it’s already too late to begin one of those scrumptious recipes.  So what do you do?

Well, if you want some bread to accompany your soup, chili, pasta, salad, what have you, then you make Butter Dips.

These breadstick wannabe’s are easy to make.  And while they’re not as great as their highfalutin wheat cousins, they will do very nicely in a time pinch.  I mean, how can you go wrong with buttery bread, right?

If you have a quick stovetop meal to prepare, start first with the Butter Dips.  Make those and get them in the oven.  While they’re baking, make the rest of your meal.  You’ll have warm, yummy bread ready to go with your awesome meal!

The friend who introduced me to this recipe liked to form her dough twists in the buttery pan, but I find this to be pretty messy.  I form them on the rolling surface and lay them gently into the pan.  You can also sprinkle the butter in the pan with garlic salt, Italian seasoning, etc., before you put the bread in.

Butter Dips

Description

Butter Dips are a quick and easy “breadstick” to pair with your favorite meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 stick butter (8 Tablespoons)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 1/2 tsp. salt
  • garlic powder to taste
  • 1 cup milk
  • shredded Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Place butter in 9 x 13 pan and place in oven. Take out when butter is melted.
  3. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder in bowl. Add milk and stir until well-combined.
  4. Roll or pat dough out onto a floured surface. Form a 5″ x 13″ rectangle. Cut dough into strips 1″ wide.
  5. Make twists out of each strip. Carefully place strips into buttered pan, turning to coat. (I start with 5″ long strips because as you twist and transfer them to the dish, they stretch.)
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes. Sprinkle with shredded Parmesan cheese.
